Technology Stack LAMP,LEMP, Windows LAMP,LEMP,Windows Both support linux and php 7.2+
CPU/Memory 1GB+ 2GB+ Prestashop has a lot lower memory requirements than Magento. Prestashop can run on shared hosting providers but for magento , you should consider a good VPS or dedicated server.

Ease of Upgrade 4.5/5 2.5/5 Upgrade is one of the biggest problems of Magento based on my experience. Although , Magento offers Command line and web interface but upgrading is a big headache. Often, you will run into compatibilility and other techinical issues while trying to upgrade. Internet is full of complaints and issues facesd by users trying to upgrade Magento installation.
Prestashop on the other hand has a nice web interface which can be used for upgrades and rollbacks.
Availability of extensions/add-ons/modules 4.5/5 4.5/5 Both offer almost all extra features with a third party module(Paid and free). Both have a marketplace with extension listings
Cost of extensions/add-ons Low Medium Prestashop modules in general cost lesser. However, Magento offers lot of functionalities out of the box.
Extension installation 4.5/5 3/5 This is my biggest complaint with Magento. We need to copy modules to Magento backend for being able to install. This means you need to have physical access to server. Although, Magento has a web interface for upgrades, its very slow and ofter causes issues. Doing everything using command line is not very easy for an average user.
Prestashop moduels can be installed from admin directly and is a lot easier.

For small shops or business owners, having few thousand products without much technical expertise, Prestashop is definitely a better option, since it can run on lower hardware stack and does not need lot of technical expertise. Prestashop has almost all features you will need for product, customer and order management. When your business grows, you can always migrate to a different platform

However, if you have number of products exceeding few thousands and you can manage/have access to technical expertise, you should go for Magento since it offers comprehensive, robust and enterprise grade features.  But definitely consider a good VPS solution for Magento. I personally like Vultr VPS since it offers exceptional performance for a very reasonable price(starting $2.5 for a 512 MB VPS).

There are also migration solutions available, which can help you migrate from one platform to the other later in case you change your mind.

I have fair bit of experience with technology and based on my experience, I am writing above unpaid and unbiased review. Please note that, statistics are taken from internet and author is not responsible for any difference of opinion, typo or missed feature.
